It threatened to happen but a superb find by local birder Nige Lound of this Black-winged Stilt this morning came as a huge surprise- the second ever record and first since 1965! Always distant and very mobile, a very welcome addition to the patch year list, now 192 Patchwork Challenge

Quick visit to patch this evening. Yesterday’s Avocet didn’t stick around. However, lots of Sand Martins and Swallows hawking over RSPB WOW and my visit was capped off by picking up my first Swifts of the year. NI Birds #PWC2024

I'd somehow managed to miss the many Wood Warblers so far this spring on Fair Isle, until this one at the bottom of Hjukni Geo today. House Martin and Garganey (a filthy twitch, but no apologies when it's a drake Garganey for goodness sake) also new for my #PWC2024 year list.

Magical morning on the patch at Tynemouth - the rain stopped and almost the first bird I clapped eyes on was this stunning male bluethroat in the TVLB garden! A patch tick and the first I've ever found to boot. #PWC2024
