(1/2) The weather in much of the UK finally seems to be warming up, which is definitely a bonus! If you survey a BBS square, why not consider signing up to do extra visits to your square to survey butterflies, as part of the Wider Countryside Butterfly Survey? (WCBS)

Fantastic to hear that a humpback whale was seen from the Isle of May earlier today👀

It's great that bottlenose dolphin sightings are picking up again too🐬

We often see dolphins from in the summer months so keep an eye out next time you visit!

Two years since the Dean Path landslide was opened, amazing to see how nature has reclaimed the bank..was also buzzing with bees and full of bird life

A wee bit of song from one of Midlothian’s rarest breeders - the Dunlin (schinzii subspecies with patchy belly and short beak). Just one pair clinging on - maybe more, maybe less?…

The first Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) of the year was spotted at NMCC last week.

It's one of many species supported by our low-mow regime. We've got plenty of Yorkshire-fog grass across the site, providing potential caterpillar food 🐛

A couple of nice surprises at Straiton Marsh today: an Osprey heading overhead - presumably a migrating bird; and a Red Fox rolling in its own urine! 😮
