ANOTHER ELIO CRUMB.

“Save the Cat” is a book on screenwriting as well as a scriptwriting method to make the protagonist likable from the get-go.

Writing new projects is a huge part of knowing whether your screenwriting is any good.

Most of us have plenty of crappy scripts. It's a part of our learning curve.

TREMORS remains one of my favorite creature features.

The screenwriting doesn't try to do too much. It takes a simple premise of 'Jaws on land' and executes it with joy and affection.

It has legitimate tension, fantastic performances, and a terrific sense of humor.

While DIE HARD certainly doesn't lack praise in the screenwriting community, this specific duet is always worth talking about.

Famously not in the original production draft, it's exquisite writing, acting, and directing.

One of the great studio films from the 1990s. THE FUGITIVE is smart, mature, and a total crowd-pleaser.

Its structure was a huge influence on my screenwriting.

1st half: Escape and evade.
2nd Half: Solve the mystery.

It FEELS plot-heavy, but it isn't. The throughlines are

Be decisive in your screenwriting. Make choices. About story, plot, characters, and moments. Everything.

Be specific and confident.

Every strong choice makes each subsequent choice easier because it eliminates millions of other choices.

It's the non-choices that drag you down.

Have started giving screenwriting tips on TikTok so I get a lot of DMs lately from people asking for advice. Harmless, & I like to engage when I have time.

But there’s always one guy who ruins it for everybody.
