I think the insects are as confused as I am by the extreme changes in the weather at the moment.......one day blazing hot the next cold cloudy and windy.

Anyway, the Damselflies are back and I have several ticks for good measure......

Damselflies(Psygoptera) are similar to dragonflies but are generally smaller and have slimmer bodies and large, compound eyes, composed of thousands of individual facets called ommatidia, allowing them to detect movement in all directions.

My wildflower meadow area of my garden is just starting to flower. Saw first damselflies yesterday swooping about. It’s 15 years of one cut in September. Anthills attract woodpeckers too.

My goal today was to find some damselflies, which I managed at Whitehorse Meadow in Croydon, a small nature reserve just above Selhurst Park. These are large red damselflies.

The eyes of damselflies consist of thousands of ommatidia (telescope-shaped clusters of photoreceptor cells) that resemble honeycombs.

How lovely is the silence of growing things.

Yesterday I got to look around a beautiful place that was full of nature. And a pond that was teaming with newly emerged damselflies. I had dragonfly/damselfly envy.
Where are mine!!! 2 Ponds and not one yet!
