George Stinney, 14, was the youngest person executed in the US in the 20th century. He was so small they had to stack books on the electric chair.

Due to no evidence, his conviction was posthumously vacated 70 years after his execution!

On this day in 1960, four black college students staged a sit-in at a whites-only lunch counter at Woolworth's in Greensboro, NC.

Escaping slaves used to throw balls of fried cornmeal out to distract the hound dogs from tracking them. The hound dogs would stop barking and start eating. This is where the word hush puppies came from.
