Whaligoe Steps conquered!

Surrounded by 3 sides of 250ft cliffs a natural harbour, 365 man made Caithness Flagstone steps zig zag down, blustery wind a waterfall defying gravity!

Wonderful Whaligoe Steps Challenge… not for the faint hearted but used by hard working fishermen and women in the past.

Following in the footsteps of the hardcore fisherwomen who carried herring up the never ending steps of Whaligoe. What stamina and strength they must have had.

Fantastic to see the 12s Orca pod off Whaligoe, Caithness this afternoon as they cruised north, think these individuals are 160 and 163 Tili...

moosh Ah cool, my local town! But if fish was landed at Whaligoe steps crews of women, some in their early seventies, would gut the fish and carry them up the 330 steps in baskets to be taken on foot to be sold in Wick, some 7 to 8 miles away! Oof
