Goliath Footwear, founded in 1880 by the Co-operative Wholesale Society, famously made lightweight football boots for Sir Stanley Matthews. He made several visits to the factory in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire and put his name to a brand of boots. #SportArchives #Archive30

These plans for a new ground for Manchester United Football Club in Old Trafford were submitted in 1909. At the first match played at the stadium the following February, it held a crowd of 80,000 people.
As well as the more well-known local sporting teams and associations, we also hold various items from smaller organisations, including the Royal Pigeon Racing Association (West Midland Region) and the Wolverhampton and District Table Tennis Association. #Archive30 #SportArchives
Who remembers playing netball at school? These are girls at Lady Manners School in Bakewell in the early 1900s enjoying the game. We don’t envy them having to play in those heavy skirts but love those extravagant bows in their hair!

One of our recent accessions is this photograph of the Dundee Amateur Gymnastic Society from 1912. The team won the National Physical Recreation Society's 200 Guineas Challenge Shield in Sheffield on 15th June 1912.
