Open question - if you have purchased a book due to something on Twitter, what made you do it? A handy link in the post? A reminder that you were going to buy that book anyway? A stunning cover? An amazing review? Something else?

It depends! Some times a witty tweet, sometimes just a relatable one. Having the link helps, but it's always easy to look up. Sometimes a good review, but more often a really terrible one-star review encourages me to buy the book.

Abby 🟧 My mom still talks about how, when my sister was born, I started coloring pictures about how much I loved the cartoon network TNT. I am now a science writer who reads 100+ books a year. It is absolutely fine!

My first trek into tropical evergreen forest in Virachey National Park, Rattanakiri, Cambodia. Absolutely floored at ground & canopy cover. Not to mention sheer diversity of bird calls. Now I get why plant & tropical ecology people are the way they are 🌳 🌱

A cloudy night of stargazing is a bummer. Clouds shrouding an exoplanet can be even worse. One scientist is finding the silver lining: Using the science of clouds to remotely explore other worlds. purdue.university/43oauNF

I thought I would stay up and read the first chapter of Martha Wells “The Witch King,” but apparently Kindle releases books on California 🥺

This piece has been on my mind since before sabbatical and I'm glad it's finally done. The whole topic ended up being more nuanced and complex than I had envisioned, and I changed my mind several times in reporting it. I hope you enjoy it. End/
