We made it! First beams were successfully injected yesterday in the #LHC . In the CMS Experiment CERN control room, we were so happy to see protons back after the winter shutdown! Now intense weeks of commissioning for the accelerator and the experiments will take place. #LHC Run3
The first heavy-ion run of #LHCrun3 ended this morning in which ALICE collected a large dataset. Here is treat for our eyes: time evolution video of the tracks generated in one single lead-lead collision as they traverse through the ALICE detector.
This year saw CERN celebrating long-awaited milestones, such as the first heavy-ion run of the #LHCRun3 and the opening of #CERNScienceGateway , numerous new physics results and achievements, and many great knowledge-sharing initiatives and collaborations.
Today, the LHC received the first 2023 stable beams at the record energy of 6.8 TeV – weeks after the first #BeamTime of the year, and after several weeks of getting the #LHC ready for chapter 2 of #LHC Run3.
Thank you LHC for the first 13.6TeV collisions 💥 👏! CMS Experiment CERN and the other LHC experiments were happy to express our gratitude with the traditional bottles 🍾! Happy Run Coordinators👍! Now, let's focus to make the 2nd year of #LHCRun3 a great success! CERN.
It was a great pleasure to be in the CMS Experiment CERN Control Room this evening for the first #LHCRun3 PbPb collisions. Thank you CERN LHC and all the CMS experts, shifters for making this moment a great success!
Almost 7am here and even after 8hours on night shift at P5 to operate CMS Experiment CERN, happy faces here! LHC did many cycles to prepare the 2nd year of #LHCRun3 . Thanks Colin+Jan Lukas to be here with me, and Chayanit+Wei to stay connected! The morning crew will soon take over...
Last visual inspection 👀before closing the CMS Experiment CERN cavern. No more access for the next months, ready to record the 2024 #LHCRun3 collisions arriving soon💥! Not only the detector is ready but shifters in the brand new CMS control room, and wow, a new coffee machine☕️🥳!!
Today, the LHC receives the first stable beams of 2024 – a few short weeks after the first #BeamTime of the year and after several weeks of getting the #LHC ready for chapter three of #LHC Run3.
While we appreciate the excitement for the solar eclipse next Monday, CERN’s
Today, the Large Hadron Collider ( #LHC ) received the first particle beams of 2024. This is the third year of #LHC Run3, and the new data-taking season is about to begin…
Yesterday, the ATLAS Experiment recorded its first beam-splash tests of 2023. These tests use a single bunch of protons from the LHC to shower the ATLAS experiment with particles – lighting up the sub-detectors to test their operation.
CMS is working at full intensity! Another #LHC milestone: the beams passing through CMS now have 2400 bunches of protons! This is the maximum target for this year's #LHC Run3 and marks the start of the 'cruising' mode in the production of data CMS scientists need to work on…
For the third chapter of #LHCRun3 , the CMS experiment carried out several upgrades to prepare for the data-taking season. CMS Experiment CERN physicist Rachel explains more about the experiment’s activities during the pre-physics season.
During the recent five-week heavy-ion run of the #LHC – the first of #LHC Run3 at the highest-ever energy – the ALICE Experiment recorded about 12 billion lead–lead collisions.
This year’s collisions are 40 times greater than the
Last weekend LHC delivered FIRST STABLE beam at top energy (proton-proton at 13.6 TeV collision energy) of 2023. Performance of the machine has been impressive. ALICE has quickly ramped up its performance. Attached is an ALICE event display from the first collisions! #LHCRun3
