The vast majority of architect, engineers, craftsmen, laborers, entrepreneurs and leaders that built this country were of European descent. Blacks did a portion of the overall labor under white management.

Blacks didn't build much railroads in the North, most northern railroads didn't use black labor until after World War 1, when more jobs opened up. Blacks worked as pullmen on the west coast, didn't lay much tracks.
