So these 'secret libel letters' have a chilling effect on public discourse. It's a classic SLAPP tactic - 'strategic litigation against public participation' - running a meritless legal argument to silence criticism.

The idea you can send someone a libel threat, and forbid them from telling anyone about it, is outrageous. It's also without any legal merit.

(Save in unusual cases where correspondence really contains confidential information; this didn't)

Fabricant says Elphicke wanted to 'drown migrants' and 'start a war with France' and finds it 'utterly amazing that someone with those views is accepted into Labour'.

Her views were no problem three days ago, while she was in HIS party, of course. They're only a problem now. ~AA

Nadhim Zahawi’s SLAPP has now resulted in disciplinary action for his lawyer.

A thread on why it happened, and what it means - for the lawyer, for SLAPPS, and for Zahawi himself.

We are going to hear a lot of disinformation today about new RU offensive in Kharkiv region. I only know three things:

1) they don’t have the men to take Kharkiv
2) nobody in Kharkiv is panicking
3) Russia is to blame but so is Western complacency to Ukrainian deaths

First official report about the fighting on the Kharkiv front. Russians have made some probing attacks it seems. The real question now for the US administration is whether Ukraine can be allowed to strike back at these attacking forces inside Russia?

The camps where those 50,000 troops are waiting inside russia to join the invasion of Kharkiv need to be obliterated. Without any debate of whether weapons from any certain country can or cannot be used.

It is very telling that the extreme right has launched such determined, vicious and lying attacks on things - the BBC, the National Trust, the RNLI, the NHS - which are all that’s left of any sense of there being something special about Britain.

The greatest paradox of our times is that the very people who profess to love our country so much, so very obviously hate it. They pang for a pastel, ladybird neverland that never was and rail against progress and modernity.

Meanwhile, the rest of us enjoy actually living here.
