Today is Mother’s Day in Mexico.

For the mothers of more than 100,000 missing people, who are often forced to search for their loved ones without help from authorities, it is a day of protest.

Mexico should work to prevent and investigate disappearances.

The atrocities we documented in El Geneina were not carried out in a vacuum.

There is a history, encouraged by impunity.

See our Human Rights Watch research on previous attacks in El Geneina against Massalit btw 2021-2023

Loitering laws are:
- relics of medieval times
- purposefully vague (standing is bad?)
- used against migrants, sex workers, laborers, ppl the ruling class doesn't want in public

Loitering laws are not:
- the slightest bit effective at ending trafficking
