Wow I didn’t know this was still possible — but it is. Even Twitter’s newish management has its limits. I’m grateful!

1. Black therapists are held to a different standard.
2. Evidenced-based treatment may not be based on evidence regarding Black people.
3. If insurance companies didn’t require a diagnosis to pay for therapy, many people would not have a diagnosis.

This article is crushing — & so is what is happening to this teenager.

Mental illness warrants compassion & treatment, not punishment.

Supposedly people w/borderline personality disorder “just want attention.”

Meanwhile, they have one of the highest suicide rates of all mental illnesses.

You know who else wants attention? Someone drowning in plain sight, screaming for someone to help.

Your Black, queer child and adolescent psychiatrist who lives with a history of suicidality (remission) thinking about how much kinder our world can be without stigma around mental illness.
