Twenty-nine Republicans just voted for $30 billion in cuts to #SNAP in the #FarmBill

When I said hunger is a policy choice, this is what I meant. Twenty-nine of my colleagues just voted to lower how much hungry families have for food.

I urge them to reconsider their position.

I’m all in favor of wearing a good piece of headgear—but I’m concerned that the Republicans proposing a $30 billion cut to SNAP need to take their tinfoil hats off!

Imagine if we were debating a #FarmBill that:
✊🏽 Protected farm workers
🥬 Strengthened SNAP benefits
👩‍🌾 Supported small farmers & ranchers

Instead of a draft from extremist Republicans that:
❌ Fails farmers & workers
🤑 Protects corporate profits
👨‍👩‍👦 Leaves kids hungry

Easy, through budget gimmicks—like cutting discretionary aid to American farmers during disasters and other emergencies—and through drastic cuts to our anti-hunger safety net. I won’t stand for this.

That's not my opinion. It's not 'rhetoric from the outside.' It's straight from the nonpartisan, impartial Congressional Budget Office.

Our farmers are struggling to grow the food we need, and our families are struggling to put that food on their tables.

The #FarmBill must empower the USDA to support our farmers and feed our families, not cut their resources.

And House Agriculture Committee Democrats are holding the line.

We don't share the same values.

Republicans called us 'hunger weirdos' for saying people shouldn't go without food.

Guess what? I think what's 'weird' is having hungry veterans, seniors & kids when we live in the richest country on Earth.

Their callousness & cruelty is beyond weird. It's awful.

Republicans have changed their story so many times we are just trying to keep up.

Repeating a lie doesn't make it so. House Agriculture Committee Democrats have been at the table with you since day one.

One month ago, we sent you a counter-offer to your partisan funding proposal that could actually pass on the floor - and you walked away. We're still here & trying to fix your bill.

House Democrats want a strong, effective, bipartisan farm bill.

We are willing to find common ground with Republicans to serve the American people—but not at the expense of hungry people, farmers, or the climate.

I guess I hit a nerve. In their creepy cult-like devotion to Trump, House Republicans won’t allow anybody to say anything they deem as negative about him on the floor. So much for freedom of speech. Like I said yesterday—pathetic!
