The police response in Calgary to the university student protest last night is a noteworthy contrast to police responses to neo-Nazi and anti-LGBTQ+ rallies in this city. I've lived here my whole life and am shocked to see the different approaches.

The presidents of U Calgary and University of Alberta must ask the police to leave campus and/or to not interfere in the ongoing peaceful protests. Doing so is important to the mission of a university and consistent with Charter-protected freedoms.

Regardless of your stance on the issue, this is wrong.

Students now chanting “there is no riot here, why are you in riot gear?”

UCP's new partisan pick as Alberta's non-partisan ethics commissioner:
Labour lawyer who briefly sought the party's nomination as candidate in 2019, and Kenney gov't then hired as Deputy Minister Labour and Immigration.

Tyler Gandam and the board of Alberta Municipalities said they were willing to work with the province on Bill 20. This afternoon, they released a statement saying the province hasn't upheld a promise to consult and called for the bill to be scrapped.

This morning Jason Nixon is going to announce his belief in magical market thinking, as thousands are homeless on our city’s streets.

Bypassing municipal authority will not solve the housing crisis.

The Minister should resign.

Where is it then?

Not one post-secondary or student group has supported this bill, while UCalgary GSA and University of Alberta have expressed opposition.
