Incredible green lores on the Great White Egrets in summer / breeding condition.
Cetti's Warbler very loud and also at Westhay Nature Reserve as was this Tiger Hoverfly Helophilus pendulus.

Along the Sweet Track Trail Avalon Marshes :
A Poplar Hawk-moth and beetle.
Great number of Alder Leaf Beetles.
A Tetanocera spcs. a marsh fly.

We didn't get to Ham Walls until 12.15 and I had to wait 30 minutes for the rain to stop. Didn't take very long from VP1 to see my first Bittern which was quickly followed by a pair flying over the reeds. Walked down to Noah's and there were 7 Hobbys in the air. No Swifts though.

2 each of Hobby, Bittern and Garden Warbler seen at Ham wall today. The first 2 spp were admittedly distant. ( both bitterns in one pic.... honest)

The long staying Spotted Redshank at Catcott arrived on 4 March then it had lots of company, still here on 22 nd. April but there's nothing here now except for a couple of dozen duck, it's pretty lonely now, that's 6 weeks and note the colour change! the weather hasn't improved

Right place, right time today at Ham Wall, when Sean Davies found a Whinchat and Redstart at Ham Wall. Great birds for the site, with the Redstart being a first for the reserve for me. My personal HW/Shapwick list now stands at 157 species

The Spotted Redshank at Catcott Lows this morning: well on its way towards full summer plumage, lost it supercilium, and gained a white eye-ring. Will it stay to go all sooty black with white-spotted upperparts? Video straight off the camera.

Spring is a time of warblers on the Avalon Marshes! 🎶

Listen out for reed warblers, sedge warblers, blackcaps, and garden warblers as the weather gets warmer! Their songs can be quite similar, so you might need to get a good look to tell them apart!

A Good morning, 5 year-birds: Hobby, my UK fav, pinned high against a blue sky over Meare Heath & Garden Warbler in trees along main track. 3 Com Whitethroats, fem Com Redstart & a Cuckoo on Chiltern Moor Somerset Birds. 3 Glossy's from VP1 but not the sum-plum adult!
