Short comic, while I work on something bigger on the side.
It is nevertheless a very important topic. A lot of seabirds die because they eat plastic. They feed their chicks with the waste. It's really tragic.

Brown pelicans in Southern California are struggling to survive, often found starving and entangled in fishing hooks by wildlife rescue groups. Despite abundant bait fish, the seabirds are coming up empty after diving, possibly due to rough weather driving the fish too deep.

EMPTY LEDGES. First visit to North Sutor colony revealed the extreme impact bird flu, storms and rising sea temps have had on seabirds. Cormorants down by 36% to only 86 nests, shags by 60% to 60 nests and Guillemots down by a massive 83% on last year.

MilkBarTV On the other hand causes unspeakable levels of environmental destruction, just ONE oil rig leaked:
- 3.2M barrels of oil
- Killed > 1,000 dolphins, 160,000 turtles, 1,000,000 seabirds
- No number of wind turbines could ever do this

After a smart male Red-backed Shrike at Duncansby Head earlier, and a super crossing to Stromness from Scrabster with seabirds galore, this Short-eared Owl greeted us on the drive to our hotel on Orkney this evening

Made of nylon and plastic, ghost gear takes centuries to break down and can drift in the ocean for many years trapping, injuring and killing marine animals with turtles, seals, whales, sharks and seabirds high in the death toll. 💔

Experience of a lifetime to visit the Shiant isles. Ten of thousands of seabirds thriving thanks to conservation efforts to successfully eradicate non-native black rats. We are blessed with internationally important seabirds islands. Let's keep it that way

Flying-dinosaur incoming 😀 Cormorants are known for their wing-spreading behavior to dry off. Unlike other seabirds, their feathers aren't fully waterproof, this actually helps them dive & move underwater with less buoyancy. 🤩
