Such as reading a book to a child about how if you're a baby baths 'are not nice They are dangerous Someone has to watch you ALL THE TIME', introducing (a) fear & (b) the idea it's a dreary obligation for a parent to look after their child
What a soothing nanny state bedtime tale

'Perhaps there's a strain of pessimism so deep that it becomes a weird kind of optimism.'

I'm working in a Pret in the west end, and at the next table there's a little boy and his grandma, and he just said 'I've had an amazing day, thank you VERY much' and she said 'I love you, you know' and my heart

Shadi Khalloul, Aramaic Christian Israeli, reminds us how Lebanon was so rapidly changed from a thriving, joyous place into a conflict ridden, desperate, failed state & points out how easily the chaos could spread through UK & Europe.

Wonderful every time a person becomes Christian but since an amusing Antipodean said this clip looks like a segment of abctv Gardening Australia I find it difficult to take as seriously as perhaps I should.

Les Murray, the Catholic convert I love best, died on 29 April 2019. He loved 'that wonderful defiance of rationalism that is trans-substantiation'.
Here he is in a snippet from a longer interview ABC News in its wisdom no longer gives us access to:

I spent a week as a Deliveroo rider. And learnt a lot.
First up, Deliveroo likes to claim you should earn at least the minimum wage of £11.44 while working. Me?
I worked for 22hrs 50mins, rode 105 miles, did 27 drop offs and earned £120.38.
That works out at £5.28 an hour🧵

The London Mayoral race seems to be a foregone conclusion. It seems a great pity as my impression of Sadiq Khan is that, for all his accusations of racism against his opponent, there is only one candidate who has no interest in, & possibly dislikes, over 50% of London's citizens.

Sadiq Khan's behaviour here is that of a bully. Susan Hall would not bring in racist policies, whatever she may have Tweeted - none of that has anything to do with policy. Khan knows that, but he chooses to act like a playground ostraciser because he can't defend his own record.

Having scrapped NowTeach's funding, the government says they would like to come to them for advice in a few months' time - unfortunately, due to the removal of funding, they will no longer exist. No one will be there to help the government do what Now Teach already did well.
