Finally made it to the Saltee Islands, and they did not disappoint! These islands are of international importance, being home to more than 20,000 breeding seabirds, including puffins, gannets, guillemots, cormorants and manx shearwaters. 🇮🇪 🌊

These ‘ua‘u kani, or wedge-tailed shearwater chicks were seen – let’s say mingling – near their nest sites at Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge on Kaua'i.

Once ‘ua‘u kani fledge and go to sea, it will be about four years until they return to breed.

You may have wondered what I did in daytime on Selvagem Grande. This is the only colony in the world where Cory's shearwaters go to their nests in daytime. A big lens, a bit of patience and several thousands of birds in the air. The only problem : select the right one !
