Phool doesn't immediately turn into a strong independent women who don't need no man, Deepak's household doesn't have a full feminist uprising, the inspector doesn't become 100% morally righteous in the end. The story shows progress the way progress really is – subtle. Slow.

The best part about Laapataa Ladies – other than the performances, music, feel-good factor – is that it is one of the rare social message movies that shows restraint, where characters' wins are still within the realism of their lives, and that makes it that much more impactful.

For everyone going gaga over #LaapataaLadies on Netflix, I went to the theatre and watched it. I am not judging you - just being morally superior and cool

Just finished watching #LaapataaLadies . A must watch satire by Kiran Rao on the Indian society, esp the rural setup and the prevalent mindset for women. A story of two newly wed brides whonget lost, but in actuality find themselves n their purpose. Great acting by each actor 👏
