One of these spores floated in through my window today, and now I'm listening to Electrelane's The Power Out for the first time. So very beautiful. So sorry for this loss. So annoyed that it takes death to bring out this kind of celebration of art twitter.com/mrkocnnll/stat…

I am annoyed by @SusanneCraig as a competitor and admiring as a reader, she's a real one who can break news on RFK's brain worms and Trump taxes and also like Westminster Kennel Club Dog shenanigans.

Liza and our plants and I all agree: Zoë Schlanger rules, her brand new book The Light Eaters rules, and as a matter of fact plants rule too bookshop.org/p/books/the-li…

Extremely proud to have worked on this Bloomberg Green Water Grab series w/ Peter Waldman, Emily Biuso, Sinduja Rangarajan, Leslie Kaufman, Laura Bliss, and many others honored as a Pulitzer Finalist. Read the series here: pulitzer.org/finalists/staf…

'A pressure cooker of despair.' I find so much of what's happening (everywhere!) to be inexplicable, so I'm grateful for this explainer by my colleague Dana Khraiche bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Was struck by Parul Sehgal's profile of Judith Butler -- singing along to a baby's cries, bad old haircuts, luminous love. But most moving to me is Herald -- a mysterious, hidden, 'not right' relative. I want to read a book about this country's Harolds newyorker.com/magazine/2024/…

Ask yourself why reporters would need to be arrested for reporting on what's happening at UCLA? What dont they want the public to know? Asking as a UCLA alum class of 1996

Reporters say Trump's eyes have been closed -- again -- this morning. If Janet Malcolm were alive, I think we'd get 3,000 words: 'The Defense Rests.' In my mind's eye, she'd read into it not sleepiness or boredom but his refusal to see his own history come back to life.

The great Robert Friedman was editing the Columbia Daily Spectator in 1968. He writes in Businessweek: 'Now we’re seeing the same counterproductive playbook dusted off: the suspension of student groups, the outlawing of campus protests, the police called.' History rhymes bloomberg.com/news/newslette…

The young reporters covering the campus protests have done such vivid work under and about such intense circumstances. I can't remember the last time I've felt more optimistic about journalism. Turn your dials to 89.9

The Businessweek Jealousy List doesn't allow entries from within the Bloomberg News ecosystem, but I am wildly envious of the opening line here from James Nani and Ronald Greene: 'At `Meatfest,' the judge and the lawyers were all smiles.' news.bloomberglaw.com/bankruptcy-law…

Come for 'whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,' stay for one of the funniest uses of 'frankly' in the history of interviews

The Printed Matter Art Book Fair is brimming and overwhelming and essential. Makes it onto my list of top five things to do in New York that are packed but worth it (the Knicks, the Q, Yo La Tengo Hanukkah, Old Town)

Absolutely nothing against longform reporting, or Q&As, or newsletters, or video, or audio, but if I were a journalism school right now I'd teach a class on live blogging. I find it's both weirdly hard and oddly satisfying to write -- and totally helpful as a reader

The idea of being 'cool' isn't as important to me as it was a decade or two ago. Honestly I can't think of too many people whose coolness impresses me? Then there's Evan Gershkovich. What is there to say? The guy is staying cool. He looks cool. He's cool twitter.com/BenTavener/sta…

Just saw a guy who looked a whole lot like Jesse Plemons on Lexington Avenue stuffing an enormous amount of AAA batteries into his coat pocket. Wanted to keep you all posted

My Columbia Journalism students are out reporting non-stop: working sources they've built over months, navigating the campus unlike any outsider, and adding much-needed context, humanity and depth to coverage.

If you're an editor looking to commission them, get in touch.
