Two REALLY good ways to destroy your political career:

1.) Brag about shooting a puppy.

2.) Announce that a worm has been eating your brain.

“We’re departing the climate of the 20th century right now and we just can’t handle these events,” Dessler said. “So they’re getting slightly more extreme, but they’re passing our ability to handle them.”

Look how much hotter it is today than it was in 1998.

I remember 1998. Scientists were looking at the temperature and saying, 'whoa, it's really hot.'

Now '98 looks downright cool.

In 20 years, we'll be looking at 2023-24 and saying 'Man, I wish it were that cool again.'

An aging marine biologist inspects a giant old coral that’s fighting for its life due to anthropogenic heating.

Surrounding it are stands of recently dead and dying staghorn corals, for as far as the eye can see.

This is what mass-mortality looks like. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Here’s the problem. 99% of climate scientists agree the climate is warming and humans, mainly due to the burning of fossil fuels, are the cause. BUT in the US, only 55% of people know that virtually all experts agree. Called the consensus gap, fueled by deliberate disinformation.

My interview this week with nature:

“The solution to the Great Barrier Reef’s bleaching problem is clear - Reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Full stop.”

“80% of the Great Barrier Reef has been subjected to bleaching-level heat stress in 2024, the highest extent on record and above the previous high of 60% seen in 2017.”

More importantly, more of the Reef has been exposed to LETHAL levels of heat stress than before.

The saddest part of my job is seeing the ecosystem I love and live to protect dying in front of my eyes… The fourth global coral bleaching event has been confirmed. calacademy.org/press/releases…
