Those interested in following up on this who have not already read it should check out robkoons ‘s excellent book Is St. Thomas’s Aristotelian Philosophy of Nature Obsolete? for his most detailed exposition and defense of this idea

It's a wholly good thing that liberals in universities are beginning to recover their courage and principles. It's shameful that they are outnumbered by progressives who have the opposite principles.

If they want the truth, maybe they should read my blog about Loughgall. The eight dead IRA terrorists were the authors of their own misfortune. They set out that day to destroy a police station and murder all of the occupants.

Things just didn't go as they had planned.

“Like all pacifists, he evaded the question of how to protect the peaceful sheep from the ravening wolves, no doubt in the unrealistic hope that the wolves would one day discover the advantages of vegetarianism.”

The basic underlying dispute here is between national democracy and supranational technocracy with all the centrist politicians (i.e., adults in the room) hoping that the courts will rescue them from the consequences of their own incompetence and dishonesty.

True. Society also has a prudential interest in knowing what dissidents & rebels, especially anti-democrat & anti-national ones, are thinking, saying, writing, planning. To ban them, Macaulary wrote, is 'to leave the serpent its sting and deprive it only of its warning rattle.'

This style of politics is why I could never vote Labour nowadays. It's claiming an opposing politician is *dangerous* and must be stopped (thereby effectively justifying vigilante action against them).

Highly dishonest and irresponsible. And this from a Labour 'centrist'.

'Supposed suicide bombings' is an interesting concept. Who does the 'supposing' here? The bomber? He would be authoritative on the bombing's intent & reality. He can be asked only about failed attempts but I believe such interviews confirm both. Why does the Prof differ?

Yes, high IQ by itself by no means entails a greater likelihood of arriving at the truth. On the contrary, it may yield only more powerful self-deceptions, rationalizations of evil, and sophistries. To yield greater understanding, it must be conjoined to a good moral character.

It sounds as if it might be a smart move for Trump's lawyers to call Bragg, the DA, as a defense witness and question him on these points.

The only thing it lacks to become the all-purpose examination question from which meaning infinitely recedes is the word 'Discuss.'

My quotation from Housman (whose name I mis-spelt--apologies) was just to make the point that the emotion of taking pleasure in your enemy's reverses, however slight, is an old one to which the most distinguished minds are vulnerable.

THERE GO THOSE REPUBLICANS 'SEIZING' REPORTS OF OUTRAGES AGAIN! THEY'LL BE COMPLAINING ABOUT THEM SOON. AND THEN WHAT? A MORAL PANIC? OR SHEER NAKED NON-VIOLENCE?

WARNING: Quotation from memory:
The poet A.E. Houseman on the UK election in a letter to his sister: 'I find on reflection that I am rather pleased Mr. Baldwin did well in the election since it will annoy the kind of people I dislike.
