The last 12 months (through April) have been the warmest on record by a large margin, at 1.65C (± 0.07) above preindustrial levels.

With half the month of data in, its very likely (>95% chance) that May 2024 will be the warmest May on record, extending the streak of record breaking months to 12 in a row:

Globally, temps in April were above avg for much of the globe marking the warmest April on record.

For those who have been keeping track, that makes it the 11th consecutive month of record-high global temperatures.

Japanese Meteorological Agency released their April 2024 monthly data set, and once again, the highest surface temperature data in the record set for the month.
That's the 12th consecutive monthly high.
