He surely wood. Early howitzer shells, in use in the C18th, could be strapped to wooden disks or cups known as sabots to ensure they were loaded the right way round (fuse next to the propellant so it would be lit by firing the gun).

I won the V40s at the new-format Battle in the Bowl and ventured onto the road, getting second in category in the Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo. Hope I can keep this up until the real racing starts 😁

That wraps up another weekend with the magnificent Montezuma’s Race Team gang. Some podiums, a jersey, lots of great performances and plenty of laughs, all #poweredbychocolate of course.
As for me, I think I’ve shaken off the bugs I’ve had recently and beat my gridding. It’s all good.

I’m fortunate enough never to have been in such a position, but that doesn’t mean I can’t imagine that it’s possible. I thought a lesson from the pandemic was ‘we’re all in this together’ so let’s see some action on that basis.

I made it to the start line, then I made it to the finish line… for now that’s enough :)

I don't like making excuses for my race results, but the gridding at the first National Trophy was random, so I'm going to blame my 21st place on starting at number 92.
Happy with that, but I was robbed of a top 20 finish.
